I have been trying to find out about hand-held GPS systems.
I have looked at listings on eBay and at websites of distributors and manufacturers. Too late! The subject is already too geekified for someone new to get into it.
I wanted to know if various units could be used to fix a point by taking a reading at that point and recording it as a map reference or equivalent. I could then note this for each location where I take shots with my camera and use the details for captions.
So what did I find? "It has 12 channels." Really? What does each do? Can it get BBC4?
One thing I do know is that the maps in some models cannot be changed.
Another factor is that, although GPS is very new, the models are becoming discontinued at an alarming rate. Surely, the basic function I am looking for would be an ongoing seller.

Hi Harold, I am fairly sure the function you want is available on most GPS devices.
