We are probably most aware of copyright law when we try not to infringe it in the course of our photographic images. For example, we must avoid including company logos.
One of particular interest is that of the Rolls Royce cars. The company copyrighted the image of its cars. So how do wedding photographers cope? And what about that shot, dwelling on Sir Alan Sugar riding in his, in each episode of the TV series The Apprentice?
We have our images copyrighted for decades beyond first publication. Other creative activities are not so fortunate. At the moment, Sir Cliff Richard is leading a campagne for the current 50 years to be extended to well beyond the grave. Otherwise, surviving Rock 'n' Roll era musicians will find their copyright, and pension investments, evaporating during the next few years. (All right for those of us who are still getting into the act, hoping to make more cash than through photography, not the greatest ambition!).
The latest furore is that Marvel Comics have taken tough action over their copyright of the term Superhero. That means a new job title for me, eh, Paul?
